I just got your book Addiction to Love last night. I have read the first four chapters. My question is this: Why do you and others talk so much about writing things down and journaling? If journaling is so important what is it and how does someone start?
Scott E. Stierle
Some people keep a journal because they like to write. I kept a diary as a girl and now I am a full time writer. Some people write so they can look back and see how much progress they have made. Some people write so they can better retain the information they have learned. It is a way to absorbing more. Some people like me let their inner child write for them and they pour their heart out as part of processing their feelings. John Bradshaw says to write with you non dominant hand so your more vulnerable feelings come pouring out
When I write I never know what I am going to say because what I write comes from my unconscious. Writing reveals things you are hiding from yourself like slips of the tongue..
In the old days you only wrote your fourth step but now people write about all the steps. It does not matter what you write or when you write or how you write. It just matters that you put something down so you can see it clearly.
Still it is optional and there are alternatives. Posting on a message board is like journaling. You could help us out on the message board.
